What Is Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy?
Pelvic floor rehabilitation is one of the physiotherapy services offered at Action Sport Physio. It aims, among other things, to prevent, assess and treat pelvic floor dysfunctions, such as urinary incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, and perineal or pelvic pain.
Care begins with an initial assessment to better understand and identify your condition and its possible causes. This starts with a detailed discussion about your symptoms, your pelvic and overall health, and your goals.
The physical examination generally includes an assessment of your abdomen and external perineal area, as well as an internal vaginal and/or anal examination, depending on your condition and with your consent.
The physical assessment helps establish treatment goals and an individualized plan in collaboration with a physiotherapist trained in pelvic floor rehabilitation.
At Action Sport Physio, treatment may include education, therapeutic exercises, bladder retraining techniques, tools such as biofeedback and TENS, and manual therapy. This service is available to women of all ages.
The Pelvic Floor
The pelvic floor is a group of muscles that plays a key role in supporting the abdominal and pelvic organs, controlling the urethral and anal sphincters, and supporting sexual function.
These are skeletal muscles, which means that you can voluntarily contract and relax them. Most importantly, they can be trained according to your needs, just like the muscles in your arms and legs!
