Functional Capacity Assessment (FCA)
Functional Capacity Assessment (FCA)
The Functional Capacity Assessment (FCA) program consists of an intensive and interdisciplinary approach over a short period of time to promote functional rehabilitation.
Our primary objective is to restore workers’ pre-injury lifestyle and to facilitate an accelerated return to work.
The occupational therapist collaborates with a physiotherapist and kinesiologist to establish an intervention plan by carrying out a personalized functional capacity assessment based on 3 key principles: progressive strengthening and endurance, simulation of work tasks, and education on postural hygiene and pain management.
The frequency and duration of each treatment session will be determined by the occupational therapist following the initial evaluation, based on the client’s functional capacities (FCA). It may range anywhere from 3 to 6 hours a day, and from 3 to 5 days a week. The longer sessions enable quicker conditioning and recovery before a progressive return to work, and include strengthening exercises, simulation of work tasks, stretching, breaks as well as educational sessions. If relevant, the occupational therapist may also recommend and carry out an ergonomic assessment of the client’s workplace.
