Pelvic Floor Therapy at ASP Montreal West

Our mission

Our mission is to educate and promote awareness, prevention, and treatment of pelvic floor dysfunctions. We use evidence-based practice and clinical experience to help restore pelvic floor functions and to improve quality of life.

Pelvic floor issues are rarely isolated. It is common for symptoms to emerge together or for one problem to cause a cascading effect.

Some conditions treated by a pelvic rehabilitation therapist include:

  • Bladder and bowel issues
  • Prolapse
  • Painful sex or an inability to have penetrative sex
  • Vaginismus
  • Vulvodynia (pain of vulva) and genital skin conditions
  • Musculoskeletal aches and pains (involving the back, hips, SI joint, groin, abdomen, and sometimes limbs)
  • Pregnancy & postpartum recovery

“I first came to visit Sabrina 3 months after giving birth to my second child, who was born 17 months apart from my first. I suffered from urge incontinence, thus I would constantly find myself having to literally run to the washroom in an attempt to make it there without leakage as I had close to no control of my bladder.

Despite the constant running, I would find myself leaking large amounts several times a day, even if I was only a few feet away from a washroom. I was very embarrassed and worried that it would affect my daily activities once I started returning to my normal routine (work & social events).

On my first visit with Sabrina, my pelvic floor muscles were so weak that the feedback machine, set at the most sensitive setting, could not detect when I was kegeling with all my force. Sabrina was extremely supportive and encouraging. She gave me realistic goals to accomplish both at home and for the next session. She is very knowledgeable and took her time explaining everything (exercises that I should perform at home, explanations as to what is involved in the physio sessions, things that I should do and avoid in order to strengthen my pelvic floor).

I also felt very comfortable with her despite the intimate nature of pelvic floor physiotherapy. She was also extremely understanding and empathetic to my situation. For my first few sessions, I had brought my daughter with me, and she was extremely accommodating, giving me time to feed her when needed and even sent for someone to get diapers for me when my daughter had an explosive diaper!

The customer service is above and beyond anything I have ever experienced. The whole staff at Action Sport Physio Mtl-Ouest is extremely friendly. I truly enjoyed my experience here and would recommend it to anyone, without hesitation.”

“I'm a young woman who has never given birth and has no serious health problems. Despite this, I've had urinary incontinence for years. I think it started when I was about 22 years old but I had never sought to get help for it because I didn't know it could be treated. This year I got a lingering cough that lasted for a couple of months and it made me have daily incontinence symptoms. It was affecting my professional life and I was constantly embarrassed by it.

I was really lucky to be referred to Sabrina. Albeit the slightly awkward nature of the physiotherapy, Sabrina put me at ease. She is an extremely friendly person, to the extent that (although I wouldn't do this physiotherapy for funsies) it was a positive experience. She is professional and knowledgeable. She gave me very thorough advice and she patiently explained how the rest of the body affects my pelvic floor (and thus how I could modify my exercise routine so as to not develop the symptoms again). Sabrina worked with me to create attainable goals and showed me which parts of the day I could incorporate my exercises into. She was very encouraging and I actually saw improvement within a week. It has significantly improved my life.

Thank you so much Sabrina!”

“After my second childbirth, I wanted to start perineal therapy to regain my self-confidence before returning to sport. Sabrina accompanied me very gently and adapted the exercises. I really enjoyed training with the little bunny! The exercises were stimulating and by training at home you immediately see the results, it is very rewarding. I recommend all mothers do this rehabilitation, for the ailments they may encounter after childbirth but also to avoid problems such as incontinence afterwards.”
