Perineal Rehabilitation – Physiotherapy Follow-Up During and After Pregnancy

Pregnancy and childbirth bring unique changes to the body: the perineum, abdominal muscles, and posture are especially affected. Perineal rehabilitation in physiotherapy aims to prevent and treat discomfort related to these changes, while supporting women in achieving optimal recovery after giving birth.

Why Consult for Perineal Rehabilitation?

Our physiotherapist can help you:

  • Prevent or treat urinary leakage and feelings of pelvic heaviness

  • Relieve pain in the pelvis, lower back, or pubic symphysis

  • Optimize birth preparation (breathing, pushing, relaxation, stretching)

  • Promote better postpartum recovery, including abdominal rehabilitation and a gradual return to exercise

When Should You Book an Appointment?

Regular follow-ups provide personalized guidance throughout each stage of pregnancy:

  • Around 12 weeks: Initial perineal assessment, posture advice, and foundational exercises adapted for pregnancy

  • Around 20 weeks: Exercise adjustments and management of discomfort if needed

  • Around 34 weeks: Birth preparation (breathing techniques, pushing strategies, perineal stretching)

  • After childbirth (from 6 weeks postpartum): Complete perineal evaluation, scar assessment (for C-section or perineal tears), progressive strengthening, and a safe return-to-activity plan

A Personalized Approach

Every pregnancy and birth experience is different. Our physiotherapist will take the time to understand your needs and create a treatment plan tailored to your reality. The goal: helping you regain comfort, confidence, and strength during this meaningful stage of life.

Book an appointment today to learn more about our perineal rehabilitation physiotherapy services during and after pregnancy.
