Pediatric occupational therapy
- Why consult an occupational therapist with your child?
Sensory experiences
- If your daily life is affected by sensory challenges such as: Your child refuses to wear certain clothes, dances and moves around constantly, disrupts the class, fidgets in their chair, is bothered by noise, gets very dirty or, on the contrary, does not like to get dirty or touch food, refuses to eat certain textures, hurts themselves and does not realize it, etc.
School prerequisites
- Whether it's before starting kindergarten (you notice difficulties using scissors, holding a pencil, tracing letters, or coloring) or because a school professional has suggested occupational therapy, you can meet with an occupational therapist to help develop the skills needed for cutting, tracing, copying, and writing.
Issues with routines
- If you are having difficulty getting your child to participate in routines, and this is becoming a daily issue (tantrums, disengagement, refusal to wash), don't hesitate to meet with an occupational therapist to try to understand your child's challenges and discover strategies together!
Overall development
- Occupational therapists can intervene in cases of motor delays to promote the development of skills (gross motor skills appropriate for the child's age, such as standing, walking, running, jumping, climbing, etc., and fine motor skills, such as holding small objects, tying shoelaces, using utensils, using tweezers, and using a pencil). Social and cognitive development are also important.
