Biography

Who is Mélanie?

I'm an occupational therapist, mother of two teenage girls, and stepmother of two other teenagers. I have a home and a busy life! I grew up surrounded by classical ballet, having danced for the National Ballet School in Toronto and then for Les Grands Ballets Canadiens. Since dance never really left me, I now compete in an adult hip hop troupe for the joy of continuing to move to music! I spend a lot of my free time in hot yoga studios to push my limits and get out of my comfort zone. It's a matter of surpassing myself and a wonderful way to be totally in the moment! When the weather is nice, you'll find me on the water on a paddleboard—my favorite place to be alone with myself and my camera, because it follows me everywhere, photography enthusiast that I am! A great lover of crafts, I can spend hours creating floral arrangements, perfectly in my own little world, but I can also spend just as many hours with my nose buried in a novel that even a hurricane can't shake me out of, which makes my partner smile!

 Education and Professional Skills

I graduated with a bachelor's degree in kinesiology from the Université de Montréal (2002) and then obtained my bachelor's degree in occupational therapy from the same institution in 2005. I worked for approximately 15 years in hand therapy before expanding my practice to general adult physical health in 2019 at Action Sport Physio in Blainville, less than a year after opening the clinic. In addition to activity therapy for my clients, I make molded hand or wrist orthoses based on the client's issues and needs.

Here's an overview of my training:

  • CONCUSSION MANAGEMENT FOR OT, SLP, AND COGNITIVE REHABILITATION PROFESSIONALS: A training course that provides evidence-based information on concussions and guides therapists toward treatment options.
  • WRIST INSTABILITY: ANALYSIS OF MOVEMENT AND THE FEATURES OF INSTABILITY: A training course that explains the different components of wrist instability and allows practitioners to undertake more specific follow-up related to these issues.
  • ASCPEQ ANNUAL CONGRESS: HAND SURGERY: A conference bringing together hand surgeons and hand therapists to share clinical cases and evidence-based data on advances in the field.
  • LUMBAR STABILIZATION - TURNKEY STRENGTHENING AND CONTROL: A training course that helps determine the most appropriate neuromotor control exercises for clients with low back pain.
  • LOWER QUADRANT MUSCLE CONTROL AND PROPRIOCEPTION: A training course that helps develop the ability to assess motor control and prescribe personalized exercises based on lower limb issues.
